About the event
Please join us for the annual Malcolm X Birthday Celebration! Historically, on or around May 19th since 1968, the city residents of Omaha collaborated to honor the legacy of Malcolm X. We are excited to continue that mission this year with a few special events running from Thursday, May 19 - Sunday, May 22, 2022.
***All events are held at the Malcolm X Foundation, 3448 Evans Street, Omaha, Neb. // Free parking available.

Thursday, May 19th //
11:30a - 1p - Remember the Legacy Luncheon
Special guests: Karen Wells, mother of Amir Locke // Bobby Seale, co-founder of the Black Panther Party // Gus Newport, A close friend of Malcolm X

2 - 5 p.m. - Guided educational tours (30 min.) - please schedule groups of more than 10 here.
5 - 8 p.m. - Remember the Legacy Photo Exhibition Opening - Rare images from the Omaha Star archives and local artist tributes of Malcolm X (feat. Celeste Butler) // Free to attend. Light snacks served; Silent auction for local artist works.
Friday, May 20th //
12 - 5 p.m. - Guided educational tours (30 min.) // Exhibition Viewing
6 - 8:30 p.m. - Freestyle Friday: Youth Poetry Performance -- Local youth poets from area middle & high schools portray words from historical figures & orators including Malcolm X, Frederick Douglass and notable Black poets.
Free to attend; Light snacks served;
Saturday, May 21st //
10:30 - 11 a.m. - Omaha Public Library youth reading circle (Pre-school Age) // Details here.
11 a.m. - 2 p.m. - Guided educational tours (30 min.) // Exhibition Viewing
2 - 5 p.m. - Dance group performances both youth and adult drill teams -- Witness drill team groups from North Omaha dance in reflection of the historic Malcolm X Day parade celebrated since 1968.
Free to attend with local food truck vendors available. Weather permitting, all performances will be outdoors in the plaza area.
Sunday, May 22nd //
12 - 5 p.m. - Guided educational tours (30 min.) // Exhibition Viewing
Visit the birthsite of Malcolm X with guided tours and view historic images from Omaha Star archives. Also the last day to participate in the silent auction. Free to attend. Food truck vendors available.
