Malcolm X Foundation - Updates & News

This month we join a nationwide movement called "Black August" which brings awareness and inspires actions around those wrongfully imprisoned as a result of COINTELPRO since the late 60's and 70's in America. Many of our residents were targeted who were former members and leaders of the Black Liberation to include the Black Panther Party, with Nebraska being no exception. We honor these lives, our Political Prisoners, thru a month-long effort to advocate for the release of those lives while simultaneously encouraging a unification of action and progress thru intentional programs. This year, we are hosting 3 key opportunities to gather starting with a Townhall to help reinstate and support voting rights for felons; a Black Vendor Expo and a film screening about the history/important of #BlackAugust - We hope you can attend!

****************

Join us for a very necessary Townhall about the need to restore & protect voting rights for felons. This Saturday, 08/24/2024 from 1:30-3:30pm at the Malcom X Foundation 3448 Evans Street. We will also address issues concerning the rescinding of LB20 and LB53 in the Nebraska State Legislation.

Expect to hear from other partners focused on this issue including RIZE, League of Women Voters and local activists and walk away with tangible action steps for our community to take!

Nebraska Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony

Have you visited the Malcolm X bust in the Nebraska Hall of Fame yet??

We are so grateful to have witnessed the historical Induction of Brother Malcolm into the Nebraska Hall of Fame this past May. There was standing room only for both the Warner Chamber and the overflow room and we all made history together! If you missed it, please see the live stream linked below. We will be hosting an in-person tour to visit the bust in Lincoln, Nebraska before the year is over!

CIVIC ENGAGEMENT UPDATES

We need your feedback!!

As we build out our Civic Engagement efforts and Policy Action plan, it's extremely important for us to hear from our extended community. Please take a few minutes to respond to our survey (especially if you live in the zip code of 68111); While we have already been in the community gathering in-person feedback, we still need more respondents! It closed Sept. 1, 2024.

In the Community: Local & National

Enjoy a few photos below of us carrying on the legacy of Malcolm X! Whether it's for a local education booth, a youth tour of the Birthsite, or a national conference (like the Executive Director visiting the national Black Museums Conference in Baltimore, MD this past week); MXMF is grateful to be a part of the ongoing Cultural Preservation work that our founder Rowena Moore dedicated her time to Honor the Life of Brother Malcolm since 1971!
